So, some of you may or may not have heard over the past few years about producers wanting to develop The Carrie Diaries, which is about a young Carrie Bradshaw and is written by the same author of Sex and the City, Candace Bushnell. It was officially announced about a year ago that the series had been picked up by television channel The CW and it is expecting an air date in January 2013.
The soon-to-be televised show will be starring AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bridge to Terabithia) as the beloved Carrie Bradshaw. I myself have not actually read The Carrie Diaries, but it is supposed to be the prequel to Sex and the City, and focuses on Carrie in her late teens aka the year 1984, for those us who can’t be bothered with the mathematics of it all. We all love Carrie, don’t we?
Austin Butler, who has previously starred in many a Disney venture including Wizard of Waverly Place and Zeke and Luther, will reportedly play a love interest of Carrie’s in the pilot. It will be very interesting to see Carrie’s love life pre- New York/ Mr. Big/ Sex Goddess Status.
I personally adore Robb and I’m glad the producers of the show decided to cast her as Carrie. Many other actresses were allegedly considered for the coveted role, including the very talented Elizabeth Olsen, Emma Roberts, Dianna Agron and Blake Lively. The casting call apparently called for ” a quirky, charming, witty 16 year old”(E! Online). (Blake, that means keep it moving). I actually would have liked to see Agron in this role, but I’m not complaining. Robb is so beautiful and from what I’ve seen of her body work and interviews, she is very eloquent, talented and humble. Three of my favourite qualities in a person.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how the show turns out in January! Until then, I think she looks amazing as Carrie!
